Henry "The Skipper" Franklin first cut his teeth in the professional jazz landscape alongside Willie Bobo in 1968. From there, Franklin made his rounds through the east coast and performed as part of Hugh Masekela's band, and later on with O.C. Smith, The Three Sounds, Freddie Hubbard and more. In his debut album, Franklin convened Oscar Brashear (trumpet, flugelhorn), Charles Owens (tenor and soprano saxophone), Bill Henderson (electric piano) and Michael Carvin (drums) to develop a sound that goes beyond any single genre in jazz.
