Exoteric Continent / Cont Ext
Residual
Alongside his superb new album La Perspectiva Racional, Barcelona’s Arnau Sala prods the ‘floor with two studies in percussion and warped electro-acoustic space for local crew Modern Obscure Music’s Altre sublabel.
Working as a perfect primer for his upcoming album’s blend of sparing, up-to-the-second rhythms, arcane noise and refreshing minimalism, the Residual 7” loosely investigates those clashing parameters in detailed, concise forms, squeezing out what sounds like a more relaxed N.M.O. jamming with Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe in the A-side’s Exoteric Continent joint, Humanista, whereas the B-side trades in more prickling, off-key computer tones and flying, levitating drum kit spun around his head, finally resolving into a nimble electro-jazz improvisation.
